Which way should this valve be??!?

Which way should this valve be??!?

Plumber fitted water connections for washing machine (top connection) and dishwasher (bottom connection).... dishwasher showing water inlet error, which makes me think the valve (on the bottom) is in the wrong position. Is this because the direction of water flow is actually horizontal on this connection? Cheers in advance!!
