Best way to clean pvc tape off copper

Best way to clean pvc tape off copper

On another thread, someone kindly suggested that this yellow tape on my central heating pipes was simply pvc tape

I need to extend so need to get back to clean copper to do a proper soldered joint

Any advice on what to use please ?
The tape is so brittle it comes off by the millimetre

Is it just a case of keep at it and thrn when the majority has gone, use fine grade wire wool it ?

Or is there anything better for cleaning copper pipes ?
